Lauren Martin
Study Co-ordinator
Lauren graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2005 with a Bachelor of Health Science and a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Public Health; Genetics; Management; Human Resource Management; and Industrial Relations. She joined the Centre for Genetic Epidemiology and Biostatistics in June 2008 after nearly three years at the Injury Control Council of Western Australia. Lauren has previously used her qualifications and experience in her role as a Research Officer, working on AGOG, the WA Melanoma Health Study (WAMHS) and the Australian Medical Bioinformatics Resource (AMBeR). Lauren is now responsible for the day to day operations of AGOG as well as secretarial support for the Executive Management Committee.
Paulina Sieczko
NSW Co-ordinator
Paulina completed a Bachelor of Medical Science in 2001 at the University of Technology, Sydney. She worked in the Molecular Genetics and Nucleic Acid Testing laboratories at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service in Sydney for 4 years. She also has over 2 years' experience at the Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Leeds in UK where she worked as a Trial Co-ordinator on a large breast cancer trial as well as a Research Assistant on a cancer Quality of Life project. Paulina joined the AGOG team in February 2009 and is excited to have the opportunity to be involved in such a great initiative. Paulina is co-ordinating all patient recruitment and data collection in NSW.
Dr Marion Macnish
Manager, WA DNA Bank
Dr Macnish has been Manager of the WA DNA Bank since June 2006 and is Secretary for the Management Committee. She has previously worked as a Veterinary Nurse and has a PhD on the molecular epidemiology of a human parasitic tapeworm. Dr Macnish has also worked in health promotion in the Kimberley region and has undertaken 'commercial in confidence' post doctoral research to develop a vaccine for the control of the ectoparasitic flea in companion animals. Prior to joining Prof Palmer's group, Dr Macnish was Senior Project Officer with the Australian Biosecurity Cooperative Research Centre for Emerging Infectious Disease where she provided project support to the Application & Linkage and the Education & Training programs.
Paul White
Manager, Informatics Systems Development
Paul manages the development of the informatics solutions for the Western Australian Genetic Epidemiology Resource (WAGER) group at the Centre for Genetic Epidemiology & Biostatistics. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management. Having worked in the Information Technology sector for more than 20 years in Australia, Hong Kong and the US, Paul was formerly Principal at Diamond Technology Partners, a Chicago-based management consulting firm, before becoming the Enterprise Architect for a large biotechnology company in Boston. Since returning to Perth, Paul has worked with a number of start-up companies as well as on large State Government and private sector projects in management and technical roles.
Chris Williams
Analyst / Programmer
Chris graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2004 after completing Honours degrees in Science (Computer Science) and Electronic Engineering. After joining WAIMR later that year, he completed pilot laboratory information systems for the WA Sleep Health Study and the Lions Eye Institute Age-related Macular Degeneration Study. Chris continues to provide informatics support to several research groups as well as core informatics infrastructure as part of the WAGER project.
Chris Ellis
Analyst / Programmer
Chris graduated from Murdoch University in 2001 with a double major in Computer Science and Information Systems. He completed his Honours in Computer Science in 2002 and began a Graduate Software Engineer position at Fujitsu Australia Ltd, working with a large database management system as utilised by the Department of Housing and Works of Western Australia. After 2 years at Fujitsu, Chris came to the Centre for Genetic Epidemiology to take up the role of Analyst/Programmer. This position involves the analysis, design and construction of Oracle databases and web-based front-end interfaces for research groups that form part of the WAGER project.
Eric Lam
Analyst / Programmer
Eric completed his bachelor degrees of Engineering (Information Technology) and Commerce at The University of Western Australia in 2004. He has been previously employed as a Software Engineer in various fields and applications - including medical device control software, government IT systems and custom-built engineering data reporting software. Eric recently joined the GenEpi team at the beginning of 2009 as an Analyst/Programmer.
